ABOUT

Marni Curtis - Bio
I am an Ohio transplant (no pun intended) with an Associate's in Horticulture and a Master's in Natural Resources & Environmental Sciences.  As a child, I recall hiking and horseback riding through wide open fields of native grasses and wildflowers.  I also remember the vegetable gardens both sets of  grandparents had.  As a volunteer at Garfield Park Conservatory's organic demonstration garden for many years, I was able to return to my roots (again, no pun intended) and work outdoors with soil, compost, and plants!  These experiences solidified my desire to study horticulture and plant ecology.

As a landscaping crew member in Chicago, I saw first-hand the need for more environmentally conscious practices for landscaping.  For me, this meant not using any equipment that requires fossil fuels, utilizing more native plants, conserving natural resources, not applying herbicides or pesticides, and more!

Lastly, I also actively participate with the West Cook Wild Ones Chapter, Green Community Connections, and as a habitat restoration volunteer with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County.
